Now that the winter is almost over, we need to understand what really happens with the weather. The fierce cold that swept across North America this winter became the cause for a new fight/ debate regarding the global warming issue. (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, source, source) I am not a denier of the global warming (although even the very use of the word “denier” implies that the opinion which I “deny” is by default correct – something which I do not like…) but I believe the whole debate must happen on a more HONEST basis.

Weather is a complex chaotic system. And both sides of the debate treat it as simpler than a “snooker balls at a billiards table” system. For example: Rising temperatures indicate warming, bur dropping temperatures (e.g. in Antarctica – see here) and record low temperatures (e.g. in the USA this year – see above sources) indicate… the same?! Surely exceptions emphasize the rule, but I would be more willing to accept that if those in favor of the “everything is warming” opinion had predicting and explaining such a cold in a consistent way… Not by simply claiming “warming will cause more harsh winters” but by explaining why this will not also lead to a new ice age…

I believe nature finds a way to find balance every time. We do not know if we are in the middle of a cycle with a large period of thousands of years (we do not have data to know that). After all, today’s Antarctic region once as hot as California, Florida. (source) We do not know if the warming will result in disturbance in critical ocean currents thus leading to a new ice age (11). And no one can explain the increase in Antarctic and Arctic Ocean ice in 2013. (12, 13, 14, 15) Could we be at the brink of another small Ice Age? (see here)

Naming “climate” as “weather” or vice versa does not solve the issues decisively. Playing games with words never does. Not to mention that CERN has concluded that warming is NOT made by humans but by the all-natural Sun, despite what global warming lovers claim. (16) (an opinion wildly censored in a POLITICAL way by the religion of climate science!!!) A debate over the real cause of this year’s cold in the US adds more twists to the complex problem. (17)

I am not a “weatherologist” and I will trust the “experts” for now. But they should know that trust is something that is EARNED.

And easily LOST at the same time…

Not much time has passed by since the “ice cubes false alarm… (we all remember the alarming warning of scientists that the melting of ice in the North Arctic ocean would lead in a rise in sea levels, only to be replaced by warning about glaciers melting after the OBVIOUS error was pinpointed: the water DOES NOT rise after an ice cube melts in it…)

Until the next coldest winter of all times, happy (debate) heating up…

TIP: Where there is money, there is a scandal… And right now the money is in the “fight global warming” side…

Greek Article – Κρύο στις ΗΠΑ vs. Παγκόσμια Θέρμανση

Οι ειδικοί συμφωνούν ότι ο πλανήτης διανύει μια περίοδο παγκόσμιας θέρμανσης η οποία μάλιστα οφείλεται στον άνθρωπο. Το CERN διαφωνεί ότι η θέρμανση οφείλεται στον άνθρωπο και πιστεύει ότι οφείλεται στη δραστηριότητα του Ήλιου, με μια έρευνα που λογοκρίθηκε με άγριο τρόπο και με πολιτικά μέσα από τους υπέρμαχους της πρώτης άποψης. (1) Βλέπετε παίζονται πολλά χρήματα σε αυτή την υπόθεση. Φορολόγηση, έρευνες και διάφορα άλλα “μέτρα” για την πάταξη του φαινομένου, για να μην πούμε για τα βιβλία του Γκορ που ξαφνικά θυμήθηκε το καλό του πλανήτη…

Βέβαια δεν γνωρίζω το θέμα εις βάθος και εμπιστεύομαι τους ειδικούς.
Όμως η εμπιστοσύνη κερδίζεται. Και συνήθως όπου υπάρχει χρήμα υπάρχουν και σκάνδαλα.

Και ναι τα δεδομένα δείχνουν αύξηση της θερμοκρασίας παγκόσμια, όμως την ίδια στιγμή έχουμε ολοένα και χειρότερους χειμώνες. Μήπως είχε δίκιο η ταινία The day after tommorow, όπου εξαιτίας της θέρμανσης καταλήξαμε τελικά σε μια παγκόσμια ψύξη; Οι επιστήμονες φαίνεται να συμφωνούν με το σενάριο της ταινίας αλλά να διαφωνούν με το πόσο σύντομα θα γίνει αυτό. (εξ’ ου και το τίλος στο άρθρο εδώ το οποίο καλά θα κάνουν να διαβάσουν μερικοί πριν πετάξουν ατάκες με βάση μόνο τον τίτλο…) [“the Gulf Stream could shut down within a century”]

Την ίδια ώρα ο πάγος στον Αρκτικό Ωκεανό και στην Ανταρκτική φτάνουν νέα υψηλά ρεκόρ. (2, 3), με αποτέλεσμα μάλιστα τον πρόσφατο εγκλωβισμό παγοθραυστικών που είχαν πάει να μελετήσουν την παγκόσμια… θέρμανση.

Ναι οι εξαιρέσεις επιβεβαιώνουν τον κανόνα. Και δεν λέω ότι ο πλανήτης δεν θερμαίνεται. Ξαναλέω ότι οι μετρήσεις πράγματι δείχνουν γενικά αύξηση θερμοκρασίας. Απλά λέω ότι ο καιρός είναι ένα σύστημα πολύ περίπλοκο για να τον αντιμετωπίζουμε τόσο απλά όσο οι δύο αντιμαχόμενες πλευρές στο συγκεκριμένο debate. Και ότι ίσως βλέπουμε ένα μόνο κομμάτι. Δεν μου αρέσει να βρίσκουμε υψηλές θερμοκρασίες και να λέμε π.χ. “να η Γη θερμαίνεται” και μετά με ρεκόρ ψυχρών χειμώνων να λέμε “να, άλλη μια απόδειξη ότι η Γη θερμαίνεται”. Και ούτε δέχομαι ότι γνωρίζουμε (πως χωρίς δεδομένα;) ότι δεν είμαστε στη μέση ενός φυσικού κύκλου θέρμανσης-ψύξης. Ή μήπως είμαστε έτοιμοι για μια νέα ψύξη; (4) Η φύση γενικά βρίσκει τον τρόπο να έρχεται σε ισορροπία και αμφιβάλλω αν έχουμε τόση δύναμη να αλλάζουμε το κλίμα την παρούσα στιγμή.

Θέτω το θέμα καθαρά για συζήτηση, δεν έχω κατασταλαγμένη άποψη. Για το μόνο για το οποίο είμαι σίγουρος είναι ότι χρειάζεται περισσότερη ειλικρίνεια και από τα δύο μέρη της διαμάχης.
