Before the dream of quantum computing is realized, a number of inherent problems must first be solved. One of these is the ability to maintain a stable memory system that overcomes the intrinsic instability of the basic unit of information in quantum computing – the quantum bit or “qubit”. To address this problem, Physicists working at the University of California Berkeley (UC Berkeley) claim to have created breakthrough circuitry that continuously self-checks for inaccuracies to consistently maintain the error-free status of the quantum memory.
Vulnerability to environmentally-induced error – such as cosmic ray events or simply an unknown collapse of quantum coherence, for example – means that the information contained in a qubit is easily lost. And because of the nature of of quantum entanglement required to encode the qubit in the first place, any attempt to replicate the information will also immediately destabilize it. (1)
The environment changes constantly. And yet we believe that memory is based on a stable environment we are certain it exists. We try to be Gods in the cosmos. By altering the nature of the cosmos. We are afraid of change and yet change is what keeps everything unaltered. Everything possible. Everything different. Where else can that be possible, if not in an ever stable cosmos? Try to make things stop changing and you will put the universe in motion.
It’s no secret that Hollywood still struggles with creating significant, complex roles for women. But if you ask Stoya, the porn industry is a bit further ahead, the adult film star told HuffPost Live:
“It’s actually less of a rarity to see the lead female character be the most interesting thing in a production in porn than it is to see in Hollywood and independent [film] and television. That’s one of the things where typical porn actually is pretty feminist. The women are the stars. So if you’re going to focus a movie around your star and they’re female, it sort of inherently does tend to drag along a little more complexity”.
Stoya and fellow adult actress Kayden Kross recently struck out on their own and founded TRENCHCOATx, a porn site with a pay-per-scene model that gives users more choices about what and how much they buy. Statistics show how hard it is for women to climb the production ranks in Hollywood, but it’s quite common for performers to take control of their own work in pornography, Kross explained to HuffPost Live’s Ricky Camilleri. Behind the phenomena there lies the essence of things. And that essence is destroyed every time it reaches the surface which we all see and talk about. One must look deep into the ocean. Beneath the scary waves of the dark sea, there lies the truly magnificent cosmos of peace and beauty. Society has created “good” jobs. To hind what are it’s true problems. Porn stars. Business analysts. Astronauts. Who can see better the world, than the one who stands at the deep bottom of it?
Porn. Desk jobs. Astronauts.
Does it really make such a difference? Does it matter what you call yourself if you are a slave? Does it matter how you call yourself when you are not?
Anything with a layer of “good” can be bad. Most things with a layer of “bad” are good. Do not trust the phenomena. Do not look at the waves. Try to stare deep into the ocean’s deep. Look at the despicable. And you will find pride. Look at the dirty. And you will find shinning gold. Stop feeling sorry for the porn industry workers. Start feeling sorry for the Secretaries of State and the Hollywood “stars”…
Many people argue in favor of our way of life. And the greatest and easiest way of arguing is throwing away lines like “Technology works”. Well, I was recently watching a video were a man with a scythe competed against a loan mower.
And guess what: the man with the scythe won! Not only did it complete the job faster, but it also worked as an “exercise” for the man who used it. Two in one! Way to go scythe!
Many times we see technology as something which is good but which has some drawbacks, i.e. alienating people, dehumanizing society, etc. But the fact is that technology does not actually work like we believe it does!
As in the example of the mower vs. scythe above, how many other examples are there out there where we have been FOOLED INTO believing that modern technology is better than the old?
Again I was watching in Youtube a video where an old tractor of 18 hp competed against a brand new one with a horsepower of 850. Guess who won the contest…
Yes, you guessed right! The OLD tractor won! What?!? It seems torque is something important when working on a field and not just being shinny, new and… fast. 😉
Examples keep coming up.
We all remember how that pigeon won the Internet in relaying information some years ago. In South Africa a Durban IT company pitted an 11-month-old bird armed with a 4GB memory stick against the ADSL service from the country’s biggest web firm, Telkom. Winston the pigeon took two hours to carry the data 60 miles – in the same time the ADSL had sent 4% of the data. (source)
Another interesting example is this: A soldier in full gear bear the same load as a medieval armored fighter. Which one will perform best on the run? Well, if you bid on the modern soldier you would lose. The weight of a late medieval full armor is around 30 kg (similar to that of the weight of the backpack of the soldier), but the burden is well distributed over the body. Thus, the medieval soldier is more flexible! (source)
Sure I know what you are going to say.
That these are specific examples, that in GENERAL technology works, that the Internet is faster in USA or in Europe than in Africa and so on and so forth. But have you put your BELIEF to the TEST? Would you expect that you should sell your mower and do everything by hand if you hadn’t seen that video? We should know better than to talk to unknown people via the Internet and call this “communication”. More… “primitive” people like in ancient Greece talked face-to-face every day in the Agora. And that worked pretty well for them…
Try to walk a steep hill on a street paved with asphalt. Now try to do the same on a steep paved with… nothing. By just walking on the uneven ground. Yes, I know. Walking on the “primitive” soil is easier and feels better.
Try to climp a steep bumpy hill with a car. Try to do the same with a horse. Yes I know. You do not want to ruin your car. But the horse is already up there on the top watching at you.
What else could you do better without technology?
As Arkas said, in the old days we had to get up from the couch to change the channel on the TV. Now we have to get up and walk the room 5 times to find the TV control.
Levi Strauss pointed out some time ago the fallacy of our times: What is “new” is not by default better than what is “old”.
Test the obvious and it will soon become awkwardly wrong…
