Scanning the brain. So what?

DARPA_0

DARPA wants to build a computer that mimics the human brain. [1]

At the same time scientists have shown that  it is possible to reconstruct thoughts more accurately than ever before by analysing MRI images of the brain (along with the use of an elegant mathematical model). [2]

In some years we will be able to see what one thinks in his brain.
And then we will be “sure” that we know that mind and brain is the same.

But we will be wrong.

Take a TV.
Open it.
Analyze it.

So?

Assuptions, assumptions, assumptions… !!!

People in Heaven.

People experiencing heaven when dying. (1, 2, 3, 4)

From the case of Do Piper (90 minutes in Heaven) to many other cases, there has never been so overwhelming data regarding the existence of all the things Jesus once talked about. Data gathered in an objective and scientific way that should make all non-believer believe and all atheists stay silent. Imagine what would happen if atheists had ONE such a case which proved any of their beliefs. However, almost nothing has changed. People continue disbelieving as if they live in 400 B.C.

Old dogmas are hard to get rid off. Where is good science when you need it?

If we think evidence are so much important, why not look at them? If we think observation is so much important, why not pay attention to what we observe?

If we think reproducibility is so important, why not admit the obvious?

It is something we once knew.
Something we have now forgotten…
It looks familiar, but we are not quite sure…

Minimum requirements for life…

Until now scientists have a hard time defining the minimum set of genes required for life to be created… Various attempts have resulted in various sets of genes which do overlap, but are not identical.. [1]

Logical.

How can you define the undefined?

How can you see the unseen?

How can you see the stars if your gaze is locked onto the ground?

The sum of matter and energy stays the same. Except when…

The sum of matter and energy stays the same. That is, except from when a huge mass and energy was created out of nowhere in the Big Bang…

Give me one miracle. And I will explain the rest…  😉

Where is what we “see”?

People think what we see is in our brains. Like a small camera obscura. But Sheldrake reminds us of the obvious: What we see is not in our brains but we see it outside of it.

A simple idea that could trigger a simple “huh?” by the haste reader.

Think about it though: Even if you perceive this page you now read through your image “in the brain”, you position it ouside your brain! [1] You understand it IS in front of you AND NOT inside you! Your vision, your mind, “extends” to it. Somehow when we see the stars, our consciousness extents towards them so as to touch them.

It is something we know as children. But then we are taught that everything is IN the brain and this inherent knowledge of this simple fact is lost. As simple as that. As simple as you can spell “dogma”…
