Light. Low light. Essence.

It was a puzzle about birds.

Migratory birds are known to rely on Earth’s magnetic field to help them navigate the globe. And it was suspected that a protein called cryptochrome, which is sensitive to blue light, was making it possible for birds to do this.

Yet many of these animals are also known to migrate at night when there isn’t much light available. So it wasn’t clear how cryptochrome would function under these conditions in birds.

A new study led by UT Southwestern Medical Center in collaboration with SMU (Southern Methodist University), though, may have figured out the answer to that puzzle.

Researchers found that cryptochromes from migratory birds have evolved a mechanism that enhances their ability to respond to light, which can enable them to sense and respond to magnetic fields.

“We were able to show that the protein cryptochrome is extremely efficient at collecting and responding to low levels of light,” said SMU chemist Brian D. Zoltowski, who was one of the lead authors of a new study on the findings. (1)

There you go. They still use light.

But they can see light where we cannot.

There is nothing which is not what it is.

There is no one who does not what he does.

You are you. Birds are birds.

You cannot change your nature.

It is just that your nature is… flexible.

We are dancing in the cosmos. And no matter what we think we can do. We will always dance. Because we can. Because we are meant to dance. We think we do things. We trick our selfs into believing we can make things happen. How wrong are we. The music never stopped playing. And the more we do something, the more we stop listening…

In a world full of music, the only thing we can do is not dance.

And fall…

Insignificant specks…

Vast universe.

Huge planet.

Look.

In the desert.

Insignificant specks.

In the forest.

Smiling.

Walking down the road.

(Good morning Madam!)

Crying.

Playing on the street.

(Do you remember yourself as a child?)

Cherries.

Look.

Feel the cold water.

In a million years…

We will not be here.

Insignificant specks.

Die.

And the cosmos will laugh.

Die.

Light breeze.

A gentle whisper…

Petty cosmos!

You never really understood!

(Can something not be?)

Born.

And on an empty shore.

Beyond the forest clearing.

Under those cherries.

A cry.

We are still here!

(Insignificant cosmos…)

Built from glass…

Ever wondered how groups of cells managed to build your tissues and organs while you were just an embryo? Using state-of-the-art techniques he developed, UC Santa Barbara researcher Otger Campàs and his group have cracked this longstanding mystery, revealing the astonishing innerworkings of how embryos are physically constructed.

Cells coordinate by exchanging biochemical signals, but they also hold to and push on each other to build the body structures we need to live, such as the eyes, lungs and heart. And, as it turns out, sculpting the embryo is not far from glass molding or 3D printing. In their new work,”A fluid-to-solid jamming transition underlies vertebrate body axis elongation,” published in the journal Nature, Campàs and colleagues reveal that cell collectives switch from fluid to solid states in a controlled manner to build the vertebrate embryo, in a way similar to how we mold glass into vases or 3D print our favorite items. Or, if you like, we 3D print ourselves, from the inside. (1)

In a world of change…

Crumbling mountains.

Rising oceans.

In a world of chaos, life.

Made out of nothing.

Fragile and yet…

Lasting eternally.

Melting glass…

Solid stone…

What lies beyond the veil of nothingness?

A universe made out of dust.

An undying cosmos.

Look at the melting glass. It is not sad.

For it knows that this is not the end.

But the beginning…

A flash.

Instant photo.

A smile.

Frozen in time.

A tear dropping.

My soul…

Death & Love story 1: “Every day”…

He was here again. Ready to see her.

It was a promise he could not break.

“Daddy, will you come see me every day?” she asked.

“Yes my dear. I will be with you every day”, he answered.

The little kid jumped in joy.

And the dad burst into tears.

A huge hug.

He still feels her in his arms.

Waiting to hug here again…

He was very old now. Waiting to die.

Wanted to hug her one more time.

His feet couldn’t support his as he reached the place.

Neither could his heart.

“Daddy, will you come see me every day?” she asked.

“Yes my love”, he whispered as he fell on the grave.

And the last thing he could sense he did was smile.

Waiting to hug here again for one more time…
