Four coincidences that show there is more in life than what we see… (?)

Four weird coincidences showing that there could be more than meets the eye…

Introduction

In science it is often said that one anti-paradigm is enough to refute a theory.

Well, in that case one of the extreme coincidences documented below would be enough to refute our idea that life is ‘just’ what we see…

Without further adieu, let us start.

Coincidence no. 1: Richard Parker

In the Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket, Edgar Allan Poe’s only complete novel, there is a shipwreck. Following a mutiny and a monster storm, two heroes of the novel, Augustus and Pym find themselves in charge of the ship’s battered remains, accompanied by just two others, Dirk Peters and Richard Parker. Facing death by starvation, they draw lots to see who will be eaten by the others. Richard Parker loses… But what is the coincidence here? Well, many years after the novel was published, a shipwreck happened. And guess what… They ate a man called… Richard Parker as it was mentioned in the novel! (source)

Coincidence no. 2: The prediction of Titanic

Many decades before the disaster of Titanic, two novels were published that had extreme resemblance to the true story of the Titanic and its sinking. The description of the ship and its sinking are very accurate as well as the reason many passengers drowned (lack of life boats). Not to mention that the name of the boat in one of these novels was… Titan! Or that the author of the other book dies in the shipwreck of the… Titanic many years after he wrote his novel and after living a life during which we was afraid he would drown. (source)

Coincidence no. 3: The church choir

That is one of the most extraordinary examples of coincidences that was mentioned by Carl Jung. In particular, at 7:25pm on Wednesday 1 March 1950 a church was demolished by an explosion in Beatrice. By a weird twist of fate, all fifteen members of the choir who were all supposed to be in the church during the time of the explosion (and who all used to be punctual) were not there. For fifteen different reasons, each one of them were late and, thus, escaped the blast! (source)

Coincidence no. 4: The dream…

Hall of Fame boxer Sugar Ray Robinson backed out of a fight because he had seen a dream the previous day. He explained the boxing commission that in that dream he stroke his opponent so hard and he killed him, so he did not want to play the match. A priest and a minister managed to convince Ray to fight after all. Ray fought and during the game he hit his opponent like in his dream and, like in his dream, Ray killed the other boxer, Jimmy Doyle. (source)

What does this mean?

I do not know what these coincidences mean. But I do know that they mean something. They could mean that there is something more than what we currently sense in life. They could mean that we have a poor understanding of how the cosmos works behind the scenes. Or, well, they could be just… coincidences highlighting our mania to believe in patterns – thus posing questions about other patterns we see in the world.

Yet, this does not mean that we should not care. The things that are weird and not easily explainable are quite the most interesting things to think of. Scientists not investigating more such coincidences (and there are many more of these – we just selected four for this short article) clearly shows many things. People are usually happy to stay where they are, attach to what they know and build on paths they have already seen in front of them.

In astronomy we used to believe we know almost everything.

Until we learnt that what we saw did not count even for the 10% of the cosmos…

Similarly, we should investigate life…

You never know what wonders or terrors lie beyond our very nose…

Harmonia Philosophica: Articles from the future? [Time travel blogging and the illusion of control]

Harmonia Philosophica sites include many pre-scheduled articles. This is the only way sites of this magnitude can be sustained so that their readers are up-to-date.

However there is an amazing little secret in these scheduled articles: They include also many post-mortem articles which will apprear in many years from now, including many which will appear centuries from now up to even 10,000 (yes, ten thousand) years from now!

Why is that?

Well, simply put: I have a lot of things to say and so little time to say it!

So I constantly write and write and write, until I… keep on writing! An in order not to overdose my readers with daily articles (or even multiple articles per day) I just spread the articles in time…

So everything seems under control…

Right? Wrong!

Recently one of my post-mortem posts showed up in one of my sites!

Well before its time (it was scheduled to be published on August 15 of the year 2359, you can now see it at my other Harmonia portal at Blogger! Check the date! It is the correct one! August 15, 2359! And yet… here it is!

Conspiracy?

Time travel?

Who knows?

All I know, is that I was right!

Nothing is under control. (check the post to see what I mean)

I feel so relaxed now…

Negative mass. Impossibilities. Dasein.

Matter with negative mass, a seeming impossibility, could actually have existed in the early universe, a new study shows.

A novel solution to Einstein’s equations for gravity permits the existence of negative mass in a rapidly expanding universe like our own, physicists Manu Paranjape and Saoussen Mbarek of the University of Montreal report November 14 in Physical Review D.

Although the research doesn’t prove that such exotic particles once floated around the cosmos, it suggests that negative mass could have played a major role in the epoch called inflation, when the universe ballooned in size just after the Big Bang. (1)

We live in a world full of impossibilites.
Impossibilities that are all somehow somewhere possible.
Thrown into this world, we crave for explanations.
While we should just experience it.
Nothing needs to be explained.
Everything just is.
Everything impossible.
Everything possible.
Feeling the cosmos.
No mind.
Being.

PS. Negative mass is the key component of a time machine according to some theories. Imagine. Negative mass at the beginning. A time machine. Everyhing One. Everything interconnected. It all adds up. In a weird way I cannot explain…

Go backwards. Surprise the Universe!

Driving to work becomes routine — but could you drive the entire way in reverse gear? Humans, like many animals, are accustomed to seeing objects pass behind us as we go forward. Moving backwards feels unnatural.

In a new study, scientists from The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI) reveal that moving forward actually trains the brain to perceive the world normally. The findings also show that the relationship between neurons in the eye and the brain is more complicated than previously thought — in fact, the order in which we see things could help the brain calibrate how we perceive time, as well as the objects around us. (1)

We believe time exists.
So we think that our movement in space helps us see… time as we believe time exists.
Funny how our perception formulates our… perception.

Stop walking.
Go backwards.
Suddenly.
For no reason at all.
Surprise your self.
Surprise the universe.
Discover Existence!

Nightmare on Elm Street. A true story. Light. Dark. Dreams.

Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street will celebrate its 30th anniversary on November 9… the day the original opened up in theaters and introduced sleepy teens to the terror that is, was and forever shall be Freddy Krueger. In preparation for the milestone, Craven has been sharing a ton of information about the creation – and impact – of his incredibly influential horror franchise, including how he came up with the idea in the first place.

With Craven coming off of Swamp Thing and The Hills Have Eyes Part II at the time, he needed to find something that was truly terrifying. And he found it in real life, so to speak.

The way Wes Craven describes it, he came up with the idea for A Nightmare on Elm Street after reading an L.A. Times article about a family that had survived the Killing Fields in Cambodia. They made it to the United States, but a young boy in the family still found himself haunted by terrible nightmares while he slept. Craven says:

“He told his parents he was afraid that if he slept, the thing chasing him would get him, so he tried to stay awake for days at a time. When he finally fell asleep, his parents thought this crisis was over. Then they heard screams in the middle of the night. By the time they got to him, he was dead. He died in the middle of a nightmare. Here was a youngster having a vision of a horror that everyone older was denying. That became the central line of Nightmare on Elm Street”. (1)

The night is coming.

What is unreal is real.
What is untrue is true.
What seems absurd is not.

Be careful of what you laugh at.

It may come back at the night to bite you…

Every night we die.
Every day we are reborn.
See the light.
You really like it because you have experienced the darkness…

Let the candle burn.
Sleep tight.
I love you.
