Abstract: Progress – scientific or of any other kind – happens when current norms are questioned and new ways of thinking arise. Things that were considered obvious become obsolete and people start viewing the world in a different way that was never there. This kind of change can only happen via irrationality; logic is always based on the current norms, and it cannot be used to break the box in which our thoughts are lost. This paper explains why this innovation process cannot be performed by Artificial Intelligence Large Language Models (LLMs), while on the other hand humans have exhibited their ability for innovation multiple times in the past. Any system that is contained within a finite number of parameters, no matter how many, will never be able to think outside this set of parameters. The only way to build AI that can innovate is to destroy the architecture we currently apply.
