Lungs and limbs have been thought of as key innovations that came with the vertebrate transition from water to land. But in fact, the genetic basis of air-breathing and limb movement was already established in our fish ancestor 50 million years earlier, according to a recent genome mapping of primitive fish. The new study changes our understanding of a key milestone in our own evolutionary history. (1)
We are fish.
We are wolves
We used to be primitive men hunting in the wild. Roaming in the forests. We died and we lived. Part of God now. We can no longer feel joy or grief. And yet we imagine being free.
(Again?)
Humans. Wolves. Fish. Beyond the raging sea. Dead and yet unique.
Oh, dear Father can you see?
That is why I could never swim to thee. Funny.
I always knew but I never did.
(I used to be a fish…)
