UK, sports budget, fallacies…

UK has cut off the budget for sports that do not have good chance of qualifying to the Rio Olympic Games. [1] But how can one know that? And how can a sportsman actually try to qualify if he gets no funding?

Isn’t that a self-fullfilling prophecy? Or a vicious circle?

Sometimes our society should think less of “gain” when it comes to some things. UK has no problem funding will millions research on elusive black holes or dark matter, but it has issues with giving money to sports which have the potential to benefit thousands of children who might look up onto their idols and try to be their match.
