Modern times are all about money.
And it is true that most people that have a site also want to make money out of it. Why spend so much time writing articles, researching new ideas, designing the site, finding good photos to use et cetera, without earning nothing out of it all?
But regardless of whether you need your site to earn income or not, truth is that your readers will feel annoyed when look at a web page loaded with commercials. And you need your readers to be happy and feel good when they read your site. Aesthetics are important, especially in todays era where money seems to be the protagonist of everything. A happy and aesthetically pleased reader will become a devoted reader after all. Isn't it that what you need?
So the hard advice is this: Avoid advertising as much as you can.
Build a lean and nice site, a site that people look into and actually feel nice when they scroll in it or browse through its pages. You want your articles to be the star of the site, not any commercial about how to lose weight or how to buy a new car. This will help you build an audience at the early stages of your site and - perhaps - later on will allow you to open ads in the site.
But again, when doing so, try to limit ads as much as you can; placing them in specific places and not letting them distract the reader too much. Remember that any site visitor visits the site to read the site, not the ads in it.
A good alternative to ads could be your site actually charging for specific additional services, but this is part of an upcoming post...
