Writers vs. Readers

writing-on-paper

People are divided in two categories: readers and writers.

If you are a writer, you should try to be a good one.

If you are a reader, you should…

Well, I do not care. I am a writer.

Spiros Kakos is a thinker located in Greece. He has been Chief Editor of Harmonia Philosophica since its inception. In the past he has worked as a senior technical advisor for many years. In his free time he develops software solutions and contributes to the open source community. He has also worked as a phD researcher in the Advanced Materials sector related to the PCB industry. He likes reading and writting, not only philosophy but also in general. He believes that science and religion are two sides of the same coin and is profoundly interested in Religion and Science philosophy. His philosophical work is mainly concentrated on an effort to free thinking of "logic" and reconcile all philosophical opinions under the umbrella of the "One" that Parmenides - one of the first thinkers - visualized. The "Harmonia Philosophica" articles program is the tool that will accomplish that. Life's purpose is to be defeated by greater things. And the most important things in life are illogical. We must fight the dogmatic belief in "logic" if we are to stay humans... Credo quia absurdum!

  2. I disagree. I care about readers because they read and support my writing, they give me feedback about how my writing means something special to them, and they inspire me to share more of what I write.

I absolutely love and care about my readers.

    1. Writing FOR the readers actually means that you are not the one who is “writing” after all. It is your readers…

      1. The caring I spoke of in my comment is the one of appreciation and communication, not approval. How can we not care about who receives our words when the process of writing is communicative, even if it is written for ourselves? Look at this, we are interacting even now—words create communities.

Writing strictly FOR readers is a whole other type of writing which I wasn’t speaking from or referring to, it’s not what I said at all.. but I guess this is what your post was referring to (caring about what “they think” before we write), the nature of the writer, that we must write without care. And it’s true, in that case, if we cared so much about who will read it, we wouldn’t write in the first place!

        Peace & Love,
